This story is rooted in local observations of plants in Nowhere Wood in drought and in the rain, but it extrapolates to the fundamental need for rainfall to support life.

The famine in Somalia is one of many in the world at the moment, including Palestine (Gaza strip), Sudan, South Sudan, Haiti and Mali. Conflict and economic shocks are also causes of famine.

If the rain did not fall in Nowhere Wood, then only the drought tolerant plants would survive, and this would have a huge impact on the animals and other organisms that depend upon the plants.
